Seeing his only equal perish, Gilgamesh became obsessed with his own mortality and set out on a journey to become immortal. A distraught Gilgamesh cursed the gods, swearing that he would never call another his friend. Enraged and humiliated, Ishtar pleaded for their deaths, but only Enkidu was punished, reduced to nothing but mud. As a result, the Bull of Heaven was unleashed on Uruk.Īfter the seven years of devastation, Gilgamesh and Enkidu bound the beast with the Chains of Heaven and defeated it. Later, the goddess Ishtar fell in love with him, but he rejected her. They worked and adventured for years, battling monsters and protecting Uruk together. After the battle ended, the two became close friends. He fought Enkidu for days, even emptying his vault. For the first time in his life, Gilgamesh faced an equal.
Disgusted by Gilgamesh's misbehavior, the gods created Enkidu to regain control over him. Though Uruk's people suffered, the city prospered. Nonetheless, he grew up to be a ruthless tyrant. While in his youth, Gilgamesh was a good-hearted youngster. The King of Heroes governed and protected Uruk from anything, eventually turning against the gods. He was a demigod, born from the union of King Lugalbanda and the goddess Rimat-Ninsun. He is the King of Heroes, the hero of the oldest epic poem in human history. After Tokiomi's death, he reforged a new pact with Kirei Kotomine that lasted until the Fifth Holy Grail War.
